As a former journalist and now science communicator, I’ve had the privilege over the past several years to showcase not only the science behind our coastal ecosystems, but also communities who are fueled by a love of the ocean. I am also passionate about student mentorship through my current program, RI NSF EPSCoR, introducing undergraduates to science journalism and narrative storytelling. As a first generation college student, I have had an unconventional journey to my current spot, moving from ancient history and languages to town council meetings and marine science labs. I try to share all that I have learned and experience from my own mentors to others.
